The Whitman Hanson golf team traveled to the Duxbury Yacht Club today to take on the mighty Duxbury Dragons in their last match of the season. Despite some impressive play by senior captain Blake Belcher (+3) for the Panthers, Duxbury came out on top 238-276.
Although the regular season was a disappointment for the Panthers, who finished the year 0-16, there is still a chance for some success, as they send their number one golfer and captain (Belcher) to the Division II State Tournament Qualifying Round on Tuesday at Easton Country Club.
Belcher, a 4 year player for WH, will enter the tournament for the first time, but could make a splash as an individual. Belcher was a solid player all year, averaging 4.9 over par for the year and being team medalist in 7 of their 16 matches. Belcher has greatly improved his game over the past four years, but will need to stay focused to hang with some of the competition from around the southern part of the state.
